George Fillip

George Fillip, age 92, of Marlin, entered into rest Saturday, February 28, 2009.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 5, 2009 at First Christian Church with the Rev. Jimmy Phillips officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6 until 8 P.M. at Adams Funeral Home.
Mr. Fillip was born September 11, 1916 in Mart to Joe and Angelina Fillip. He was a lifelong resident of Falls County, a member of First Christian Church in Marlin for over 75 years where he served as Elder and Chairman of the Church Board. Mr. Fillip served on the board of directors of the Texas Farm bureau for 50 years and received the Pioneer Award. He was one of only 14 Texans to receive this honor in 2000. He was a member of Waco Production Credit Association and served on the board of directors for 25 years. He was President of Tri-County Water Corporation and was on the board of directors of the Samaritan House in Marlin. He loved fishing and his tending to his cows.
Mr. Fillip married Ruby Smith on January 25, 1940 in Marlin and she preceded him in death in 2001 after 62 years of marriage.
Survivors include his son, Steve Fillip and his wife Sarah of Crawford; daughters, Anita Tate and her husband Tommy of Marlin, Sally Smith and her husband Carl of Thicket, TX; brothers, Woodrow Fillip of Marlin, Eugene Fillip of Angleton; sister, Velesta Ramby of Brazoria; nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jeffery Smith, Dean Tate, Drew Tate, Adam Tate, Darrel Fillip, Joel Fillip, Charles Ray Evans and Elton Ethridge.
