Wilbur G. Fannin
July 27, 1934 – September 24, 2007

     Wilbur G. Fannin, 73, of Kosse and Marlin entered into rest on Monday, September 24, 2007.

     Services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 28, at the First Christian Church of Marlin with the Rev. Jimmy Phillips officiating. Burial was in the Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening at Adams Funeral Home.

     Mr. Fannin was born July 27, 1934 in Stranger to William and Juanita Towers Fannin. He owned and operated several service stations in Marlin and also was in the used car business as well as his first love, ranching. He was a life long resident of Falls County and a member of the First Christian Church where he served as a deacon.

     He married Lucy Winfrey on October 4, 1952 in Marlin and she preceded him in death on March 10, 2003. Mr. Fannin sponsored the Kids fish for a day which was held at his farm pond near Kosse. He also enjoyed hunting and worked with the Working for Christ program.

     Survivors include: daughters, Debra Rogers of Kosse; Cynthia Thigpen of Austin; Sandra Taylor of Austin; mother, Billy Fannin and his wife June of Folsom, California; sister, Wanda Henderson and her husband Temple of Mountain Home; brother-in-law, Jim Winfrey and his wife Pat of Grand Prairie; nine grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

 

Local Rancher Dies

     Local rancher Wilbur Fannin was found dead on his property after an accident involving his four-wheeler.

     The Falls County Sheriff's Office received a phone call on Monday evening, Sept. 24, in regards to a missing local rancher.

     "At approximately 8:45 p.m., Wilbur Fannin was located by family members and Sheriff's Deputies on his property near the Stranger community, approximately 11 miles east of Marlin," a press release from Sheriff Ben Kirk's office stated.

    An initial investigation suggests that Fannin, who was approximately 73 years old, was spraying weeds when his four-wheeler overturned on an uneven grade.

     According to reports from the Falls County Sheriff's Department, JP Sharon Maxey was notified to pronounce Fannin's death and no further details are expected for release.
