STRANGER RESIDENT DIES

 

J. F. ERSKINE HAD SPENT HIS

ENTIRE LIFE IN THIS SECTION

                                               

 

     The death of J. F. Erskine, aged 60 years, occurred at his at Stranger Tuesday afternoon about 5:30 o’clock, after an illness of several months.

 

     Born April 9, 1857, deceased had spent his entire life in this section. He had been engaged in stock farming on an extensive scale. In his community life, he was an earnest church and Sunday school worker, being a member of the Presbyterian church, and will be greatly missed in these circles. Mr. Erskine was a public spirited and useful citizen in every respect. Affable and genial by nature, he possessed scores of friends and the respect and esteem of all who knew him. He was a successful business man and reared a large family.

 

     Surviving deceased are his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Mabel Erskine Watts, and Misses Hattie and Gertrude Erskine, also six sons, Will, Stovall, Claude, Dick, Carl and Kurg.  All of them live in the Stranger community on Blue Ridge, except Rick, who is in the army at San Antonio. He is now on a leave.

 

     The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at two o’clock at Stranger with services in the Presbyterian church there, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Crockett, interment following.
