Former Mail

Carrier, Dies

 

     ROSEBUD, Oct. 11 - Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Eddleman, 90, native Texan and one of the first women mail carriers in Central Texas, died at 4:15 p.m. today at a local hospital. She had been ill since June.

 

     Born in Marshall on Jan. 16, 1864, Mrs. Eddleman became associated with the postal service in 1905 at Rosebud. She spent the majority of her 26 years with the postal service on a rural route, carrying mail first on an old grey horse, later in a buggy, and finally winding up her service by delivering mail in an early-model touring car. She retired in 1931 at the age of 67.

 

     She was married to the late William Taylor Eddleman, who preceded her in death in 1925. One daughter also preceded her in death.

 

     Mrs. Eddleman had lived in Rosebud and Falls county for 49 years. She was a long-time member of the First Methodist church of Rosebud.

 

     Funeral services will be held at the First Methodist Church at 3 p.m. Tuesday with Rev. C. A. West, pastor of the First Methodist Church of Center, officiating.  Burial will be in the Woodland cemetery with the Green Funeral of Rosebud in charge.

 

     Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Elsie Pyle of Rosebud; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

 

     Post Office workers of Rosebud will serve as pallbearers.
