John B. "Papa" Crenshaw
October 11, 1930 – November 23, 2008
John B. "Papa" Crenshaw, 78, of
Crawford, passed away Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008, at his home. Graveside services
will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, at China Spring Cemetery with Chaplain Curtis
Holland officiating.
John Blucher Crenshaw was born
Oct. 11, 1930, in Bruceville-Eddy, to Myrtle Allie Butts and Samuel Torrance
Crenshaw. He attended school there, then attended Alvin Junior College and
finally graduated from Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science in 1967. John
returned to the area and spent many years working as a funeral director for
Connally/Compton Funeral Directors, helping so many families in their time of
need, where he retired in 1989. He
loved the outdoors and camping with his friends. To John anytime was a great
time for a campfire ~ even during a "burn ban. "He was a 30 year member of Fidelis Lodge #1127 A.F. & A.M.
and also a member of Karem Shrine Temple.
He married Ms. Ruby Gilleland on Nov. 15, 1974. Until his last day on earth "Rubykins"
loved and cared for the husband she dedicated herself to.
Left behind to cherish his memory
are his wife of 34 years, Ruby Crenshaw of Crawford; son, Doug McIntyre and
wife, Vicki of Lake Jackson; daughter, Lana Klemcke and husband, Todd of China
Spring; bonus-daughters, Patty Ballard and husband, Andy of Royal Palm Beach,
Fla. and Linda Stewart and husband, Scott of Austin; grandchildren that he loved
so much, Jackson, Jordan and John-Austin McIntyre, Weston and Colson Klemcke,
John and Lee Cantrell, Andy J. Ballard and wife, Laura and Nick Ballard;
great-grandson, Dalton Ballard; sister, Nita Smith; and numerous nieces and
nephews.
