Essie Lee
Craig - Essie
Lee was born on January 10, 1910 to Silas and Maggie Craig. She attended
the public school in Long Branch, Texas.
At an early age, she united with the Davis Chapel United
Methodist Church, where she remained until her demise.
Essie Lee was united in marriage to Carthan Vanderbilt, and
to this union one child, Eva Mae, was born.
Essie Lee knew in whom she had believed and was convinced He
was able to take her all the way home. People who came in contact with
Essie Lee knew her to be a very friendly, outgoing woman who had that special
gift for making people laugh. Essie Lee was truly loved by her family and
friends.
On September 21, 2001, the Lord whispered in Essie Lee's ear,
"Well done, thou good and faithful servant, come on home." She took the
Lord's hand and together they went to glory.
Her husband, daughter, and ten brothers and sisters preceded
her in death.
Today, we gather to celebrate the homegoing of a woman who
made a positive, lasting impact on everyone she met.
Essie Lee leaves to cherish her memory: two grandsons, James
E. Vanderbilt of Marlin, Texas and Sherbit T. Vanderbilt of Harker Heights,
Texas; one granddaughter, Ruthie M. Sledge of Dalhart, Texas; six
great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, three nieces, Nora Wilson
and Dora Maxwell of Midland, Texas and Maggie Craig of Marlin, Texas; one
nephew. Thornton Craig of Marlin, Texas; and a host of other relatives and
friends.
Interment: Long Branch Cemetery, Kosse, Texas.
