Evert Emery Baker

Evert Emery
Baker, 85, died March 11, 2007 at Falls Community Hospital in Marlin following a
short illness. He resided with his wife on a small farm near Lott.
He was born in
Minco, Oklahoma on March 8, 1922 to Ralph Emery Baker and Lona Evelyn (Davis)
Baker.
After graduating
from Union City High School, he served as a Navy medical corpsman in the Pacific
during World War II. He married Ermal Stewart on May 23, 1946 in Yukon, Oklahoma
and farmed in that area for many years.
He and his wife
operated Baker's Dairy until 1960 when they and their children moved to Dallas.
From 1960 until 1983, he worked as a USDA meat and poultry inspector in the
central Texas area including Waco, Marlin, and Bryan. After retiring from the
USDA, Evert operated a lawn mower and tiller repair service in Marlin for many
years. In 1994, he and his wife bought a farm near Lott and built a house there.
He is preceded
in death by a sister, Juanita Oliver of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
He is survived
by his wife Ermal of Lott; a son, Larry Baker, of Lott; a son, Terry Baker, of
Calvert; a daughter, Sherri Bryant and husband Alan, of Cedar Creek; a grandson,
David Emery Bryant, and granddaughter, Mary Beth Bryant, also of Cedar Creek. He
is also survived by a brother, Ervy Baker and wife Gloria, of Robinson, and
numerous nieces and nephews.
Family
visitation was held at Adam's Funeral in Marlin, Tuesday evening.
Graveside
services will be Wednesday, March 14, at 2 p.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery in Marlin
under the direction of McNeil's Mustang Funeral Service, Mustang, Oklahoma.
