Sudden Death at Chilton
Mrs. Blackshear,
widow, died suddenly near Chilton Wednesday. She and children were on their way
to the cotton patch in a wagon when the mother suddenly expired without
apparently having been ill. Mrs. Blackshear was a widow and she and children
earned their living in the field. The death of the mother is inexpressibly sad.

Emma (Farr) Blackshear
was the daughter of J. R. Farr and Merial C. Robertson Farr of Waco, McLennan
Co., Texas and the oldest of their children, born in Alabama in 1874-76. Emma Farr Blackshear married Alexander J. Blackshear in 1903
in Waco, McLennan Co., Texas. He
had been married previously to a Melinda Farr, and I have suspected that Emma
was the daughter of the first wife. However, I have not been able to confirm
that.
Alexander Blackshear was married previously to a Fannie Witt. Evidently
Fannie died around 1900, leaving five children: Abey, born 1890, Nellie, born
1891, Charlie, born 1892, Ike, born 1894, and Etta, born 1896. After the
marriage to Emma, there were four children born: Arthur, 1903, Willy, 1905,
Freddie, 1907, and Willie D., 1909.
It
appears that Alex died Jan. 15, 1910, according to the Texas Death Index, in
Falls Co., Texas. I could not find
him on the cemetery lists and when I was looking for him, I did find Emma,
buried in the
Carolina Cemetery - died in 1912.
On
the 1920 Odd Fellows and State Orphans census, three of the children are
listed: Arthur, Willy, and Freddie [female, I think]. There is no mention
of the youngest child - shown as 9/12 on the 1910 census.
My
information on the Blackshear family is quite limited.
If you know any further info, please let Jane
know.
