WOODMEN PARADE.
-----
An Extensive And Representative
Affair.
-----
Rain Interferes With Attendance.
-----
Thursday was Woodmen Day
of the Marlin Carnival and quite a good many Woodmen were here. The rain
Wednesday night and indications for more, however, kept many others away.
The Woodman Lodge has a strong membership
in Falls county and there was a good representation present.
The parade was formed at 2 o'clock on the
public square and proceeded down Live Oak to Cousins, thence to Coleman and on
Coleman to the square where the speaking took place.
In the procession, beside the officers of
the day and the band were the following:
Decorated float, inscription "join the
Woodmen we will do the rest."
Decorated float: inscription, "W.O.W. protects
our dear ones when we are gone."
Decorated float representing Woodmen
Circle, occupied by two score girls; inscription "we circle the world with
protection."
Log cabin on float drawn by ten head of
cattle. Cabin occupied by widow and two little children.
Decorated pyramid, occupied by Woodmen.
Decorated float; inscription, "Marking the
last resting place of a Woodman. Gone but not forgotten."
The entire program was quite creditable and
indicative of the enterprise and benevolent feature of the order.
The visiting Woodmen expressed themselves
as quite well pleased with the showing made by the order and of the
progressiveness of Artesia Camp at Marlin.
