TUITION BILL SIGNED
BY GOVERNOR STERLING
Remedies Situation Which Had Been
Created by Supreme Court
Decision.
Senate bill No. 41 according free tuition in public schools to pupils from six
to 21 years of age, inclusive, passed by the special session of the 42nd
legislature ending Wednesday, has been signed and filed by Governor R. S.
Sterling.
This remedies a situation created by a
supreme court decision sometime ago, according to Miss Lois Souther, Falls
county superintendent of the Marlin independent school district.
Briefly, the decision held that only pupils
enumerated in the scholastic census, covering ages from six to 17 years, were
entitled to free tuition. Under the new law, the maximum is now increased
from 17 to 21 years.
