FIREMEN ANSWER THREE
ALARMS DURING WEEKEND
-----
Door or Nearby Building Found Open
Coincidentally With
One Call.
-----
Marlin firemen answered three calls during the weekend, no damage of consequence
being reported, however.
They were called to Fred Schimming's
filling station on Commerce street at 10:42 o'clock Friday night when a
tourist's car was threatened by an electric short, but the blaze was curbed
before any damage occured.
Coincidentally with this alarm, a party
residing nearby noted the door of a building of the Model Laundry across the
street open. An investigation followed, but nothing was found missing and
it was concluded the door probably was left open inadvertently by an employe
(sic).
At 12:25 o'clock Saturday morning, firemen
were called out by burning grass on Gresham street. The flames were
extinguished before they spread to surrounding property.
The third alarm came in at 2:45 o'clock
Sunday morning from the Hilton hotel. Fire in a mattress, reported to have
been ignited in a room earlier in the night as the result of a guest smoking in
bed, again broke out after it had been taken to the hotel basement.
Considerable smoke resulted but there was no damage beyond that of the mattress.
