STORES AT MOOREVILLE
AND WESTPHALIA
ROBBED
Knob Knockers Chisel Way Into
Vault of One But Fail to
Reach Money
Knob knockers
chiseled their way into the vault of the H. S. Jones
store at Mooreville some time Friday night, but failed to reach the section of
the safe where money was kept, while burglars obtained a considerable quantity
of loot from H. A. Hoelscher's store at Wesphalia. Sheriff Reese and
Deputy Hay investigated.
After digging an opening in the brick vault of the Mooreville store, the
intruders knocked the knob off the safe and opened the outer door, but failed to
get into the money compartment. No merchandise was missed from the place.
Entering the Westphalia store by forcing a front window open, burglars got away
with a quantity of high priced shoes, silk hose, apparel and bolt silks, also
other merchandise. A check may show several hundred dollars worth missing,
it was estimated.
