PYTHIANS ELECT MARLIN
MAN GRAND OUTER GUARD
Put in Nomination by Senator and
Wins Contest by Large
Margin.
G. S. Buchanan was elected grand outer guard of the Texas Pythian grand lodge at
its 1931 session in Temple today.
Nominated by Senator Tom Connally of
Marlin, himself a past grand chancellor, the Marlin candidate was chosen in a
contest with H. V. Wheeler of Jefferson lodge No. 55 of Beaumont by a vote of
193 to 66.
Under a practice observed in the Knights of
Pythias grand lodge, election to the post of grand outer guard puts this officer
in line to be advanced to other chairs through the grand chancellorship.
Mr. Buchanan has been active in Pythian
circles of the state for a number of years, attending the present grand lodge
session as representative from Marlin lodge No. 16. He has also been an
ardent member of the D.O.K.K., an advanced degree of the order, having attended
several of the international biennial conventions of the latter.
