SCHOOL OF McCLANAHAN
ENDS EIGHT-MONTH TERM
Picnic Dinner Features Closing Day
Exercises of 1930-31
Session.
After eight months of
school work, the McClanahan School term has come to an end again. All of
the books have been hidden in their lockers or other places until the next term
begins, except those checked out by pupils wishing to do some studying during
the summer.
The school program was given Friday night,
May 8, one week before the closing date, in order to give the pupils a chance to
do their review work for their final examinations..The school program was
attended by an extra large crowd of visitors.
The school had a picnic dinner on the
closing day May 15. Dinner was spread under the Baptist Tabernacle near
the school house. Pupils, teachers and patrons of the community, that were
not too busy with their work enjoyed their dinner together.
After dinner some of the pupils played
ball, while some pupils and visitors took a plunge in Big Sandy, in answering
the call of such beautiful summer day.
During the past year we have had 115 pupils
enrolled but during the year 21 withdrew on account of moving, etc..., leaving a
net enrollment of 74 pupils remaining until school closed. Of those
remaining until school closed about 94% were promoted. Only 4 pupils took
same work this year as last year.
Total attendance of all pupils for the year
were 10,085 days or an average of about 64 for each day that school was taught.
The teachers for the past two years were:
Primary--Miss Adalonne Nun.
Intermediate--Miss Icey Ann Wright.
Principal--Robert Schrader.
