MARLIN HIGH SCHEDULES
SEVERAL FOOTBALL GAMES
Bulldog-Coolege (sic) Clash Slated First
Day of Falls County
Legion Fair
Five football games have been scheduled for Marlin High
school's 1931 gridiron season, states J. M. Wilson, business manager of
athletics, while five open dates are reported on the Bulldog calendar.
One of the games, that slated (sic) in Marlin October 16 with Cooledge, was
arranged in co-operation with the Falls county American Legion fair committee
for the opening day of that event in order that those attending desiring to do
so might have opportunity to witness a gridiron attraction.
All of the other games so far scheduled will be played in Marlin, opening with
Methodist Orphans of Waco September 18, followed by Belton September 25,
McGregor October 9 and Mexia, expected to prove the feature game of the season
here, October 30.
Open dates are October 2, October 23, November 6, 13 and 20. Of the five
games matched, two are district 14B conference games, of which the Bulldogs must
play five by November 20, hence three of the five games yet to be arranged must
be scheduled with teams in the district.
The above dates carry the Bulldogs to Thanksgiving Day, when the season will
end, or, in event they are still in the district race, they will be matched with
other survivors in the Texas Interscholastic League contest.
The Bulldogs will have a new field to prance upon this season, erection of a
fence around the property recently acquired by the school district, at the
corner of Ward and Anders streets now being underway.
Coach G. B. Weathers has arrived in Marlin for the opening of school and a large
squad is expected to turn out to battle for places on the eleven.
