of Post.
For the purpose of raising funds by popular subscription for the Dan Edwards
Memorial Portrait to be placed in Pershing Hall in Paris, France, a committee
composed of R. R. Eddins, C. S. Cousins and J. A. Collins was appointed at the
regular May meeting of Falls county post No. 31 American Legion in the assembly
room on the second floor of the city hall Thursday night.
Edwards, one of the outstanding heroes of
the world war, lived in Marlin as child, enlisted in the United States army from
the Mooreville
community and though he now lives in New York City, still claims Falls county as
his home.
Memorial Day Plans Made
A committee composed of B. C. Segrest, C. S. Cousins and V. R. Marek was named
to arrange details and prepare a program for annual Memorial day services to be
held in Marlin Sunday afternoon, May 31.
Another committee was named, composed of V.
R. Marek, Terry Dickens and Cecil Glass, to investigate advisability of holding
a dance or other entertainment to provide funds for the post treasury on which
there is a constant drain for relief and other work.
The post commander, B. C. Segrest, was
instructed to buy 10 guns for the post for use in ceremonies, the purchase to be
made between now and July 1, at which time the government will withdraw its
offer to sell them at attractive prices.
