Ex-Service Men's Fish Fry
~~~~~
Number of Visitors and Others
Presented During Brief Program.
~~~~~
More the 100 attended the annual ex-service
men's fish fry on the west bank of the Brazos river at the mouth of Deer creek
today. While a majority of those present were from Marlin and other points in
Falls county, a number attended from out of county points.
A large quantity of fish had been prepared for the occasion, the supply of
edibles proving more than adequate for the big crowd.
During a brief program with Cecil Glass presiding, a vote of appreciation was
extended H. O. Barganier, owner of the place on which the fish fry was held, Ben
Davis, in charge of the cooking, and all others who contributed to the success
of the occasion.
A. T. Beinhauer, commander of Brodie Lee Caywood American Legion Post at
Rosebud, invited all present to attend the two-day American Legion fair at
Rosebud today and Saturday.
Other visitors heard included Carl Cannon and G. A. Stallworth of Groesbeeck,
First Lieutenant Culver Cluck of the United States army flying corps, stationed
at Detroit, Mich., Walter Gray of Galveston, B. l. Faulkner of Mart, Herman Dean
of Riesel, Curtis McClain and E. C. Kemble of Lott.
A number of Marlin men also were presented, including O. E. Curry and P. J.
Bryan, who lost sons in the world war; B. C. Segrest, commander of Falls county
post No. 31 American Legion; R. R. Eddins, general chairman for the fish fry
this year; Andrew Seros, who recently located in Marlin; Mr. Barganier, and
several more ex-service men.
C. S. Cousins, former first sergeant of Company F, Third Texas infantry,
ex-members of which initiated the celebration a number of years ago, was elected
chairman for next year's event, which will be held on July 4, the fish fry being
moved up one day this year account of the holiday coming Saturday.
