classed as farm land with 290,000 acres in cultivation, of which only 30,000
acres is terraced the county agent said in stressing the great opportunity
presented for soil conservation work. Fifty-three farmers in the county
have farm levels and are doing terracing, he said.
Other phases of his work emphasized by the agent were development of pasturage,
encouraging use of balanced rations in feeding hogs and poultry and guarding
against intestional parasites, issuance of bulletins, promotion of the Falls
County 25,000-Acre Alfalfa Club, the realization of which will make Falls county
the banner livestock county of the nation and the world, he said; advancement of
dairying and raising of beef cattle and fruit insect control.
Feeding our cattle for the market in Central Texas was advocated by Dr. N. D.
Buie, president of the East Texas Chamber of Commerce, as a movement sponsored
by that organization.
