MUSTANG.
To The Democrat:
The rainy weather wasn't very suitable for
travel, but on January 28, Miss Onah Jacks came over for our club meeting, which
was held with Mrs. C. E. Burns. Only five members were present, but the
threatening weather kept others from attending. Miss Jacks gave an
interesting talk on yard improvement and gardening was discussed, too, as these
warm days makes one think spring is just around the corner. Mrs. T. E.
Lewis and Mrs. D. C. Williams have set cabbage and onion plants. Mrs.
Williams is trying a few cauliflowersplants. T. L. Lewis has English peas
planted. Most of the gardens, are too wet to plant. We've found
gardening much more interesting since entering club work. We were so sorry
our secretary, Mrs. E. O. Burns, couldn't be at this meeting. She was in
Marlin to see Mrs. Chas. Pringle, who underwent an operation the first of the
week.
The next meeting is to be with our
secretary on February 11, though some of the members expect to can a beef on
that date, the meeting place may be changed.
A. L. Lewis, Joe Johnson and Porter Brown
had business in Marlin this week.
M. H. Dickey and family of Bremond spent
Sunday with his brother, W. P. Dickey and family.
Several of our folks expect to attend the
fifth Sunday meeting at Lost Prairie.
Mrs. Bunyan Hightower visited her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Masters, near Thornton last week.
The teachers are preparing an interesting
program; the young folks are practicing most every day. There will be no
charge, so everybody come.
Since beginning this report, we've changed
our mind about spring being so near at hand. Old Man Winter has made
another visit and it is hoped he'll stay for a spell this time. We've
heard of some meat spoiling during the warm weather.
