For third time, Leroy
Newman and Ernest Maxwell were slated to meet each other at five o'clock this
afternoon in a Marlin city tennis tournament, both having progressed thus far in
two similar events of other years. Newman had been victor in preceding
tournaments, but the clash today was expected to be a hard fought one for both
players have played consistent tennis in reaching the finals.
In semi-finals Wednesday, Newman, defending
champion, won over Cecil King by scores of 2-6, 6-1, 7-5, while Maxwell was
victor over Dr. Howard Smith, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, leaving the winners in the running
for the city singles championship.
