CHILTON SAFE BLOWN and
NEARBY GARAGE ROBBED
-----
Burglars Get $19 in Cash, Some
Peaches and Gasoline
and Oil.
-----
Burglarized twice in three nights, Wm. Cameron & Company at Chilton lost $19 in
cash when its safe was blown Sunday night, in addition to some knives taken
Friday night, while the Vasser garage nearby was robbed of a half bushel of
peaches, some gasoline and lubricating oil.
Entrance to the Cameron & Co. place of
business was effected both times by prizing open a window, while locks were
twisted off of the garage door.
Both burglaries were discovered when the
places were opened for business this morning. Sound of the powder blast
which blew open the safe was muffled with collar pads, although one Chilton
resident reported having heard something like an explosion during the night.
The money box in the safe was taken a short
distance down the railroad nearby and broken open to obtain the cash.
Some gun shells were reported piled up in
the place, apparently having been forgotten as the burglars made off from the
scene.
Sheriff Reese and Deputy Hay went to
Chilton today and investigated the burglaries.
