BEULAH-SHIELDS CLUB HOLDS
ANNUAL BUSINESS SESSION
Officers Chosen For New Year and
Delegates Appointed to Canning
Meeting.
To The Democrat:
The Beulah-Shields Demonstration club held its annual business session November
19th in the of Mrs. Alfred Roming with twenty members and one visitor present.
The following officers were elected for 1932: President, Mrs. G. A. Huber,
vice-president, Mrs. G. M. Shilling; secretary-treasurer, Miss Katy Mirick;
parliamentarian, Mrs. Alfred Roming; reporter, Mrs. A. Taube; council delegate,
Mrs. W. C. Tisdale; pantry demonstrator, Mrs. A. H. Roming; garden demonstrator,
Mrs. C. Laudermilk; yard demonstrator, Mrs. G. M. Shilling; custodian of canner,
Mrs. V. C. Honnall.
Mr. and Mrs. Laudermilk and mr. and Mrs. W. C. Tisdale were appointed delegates
to the meat canning demonstration to be given by the county agents soon.
The club voted to buy another canner and sealer at once, because so many members
expect to can meat as soon as the weather becomes cool. The canner and
sealer purchased by the club last June have been in almost constant use.
The plan of using the equipment has proved so satisfactory that the club voted
unanimously to continue the same plan next year. This plan is to have a
custodian who has a telephone and lives as near the center of the community as
possible. The member wishing to use the equipment takes it to her home,
returning it at night to the custodian. When the demand is great the
members register with the custodian and secure the equipment in the order of
their registration.
The spirit of this club is all that could be desired. It is to this spirit
-- one of friendliness, co-operation, oneness--that the exhibit committee
attributes their ability to win first place in the Falls county fair.
Every member present, except Mrs. Ruby Hamlin took a card for re-enrollment.
Much to the regret of herself and the other members, Mr. Hamlin is moving away
soon.
Miss Onah Jacks, accompanied by representives from the Cego and Chilton clubs,
met with members of the local club in the of Mrs. G. A. Huber, pantry
demonstrator, November 11, for a pantry exhibit, and a discussion of the value
of the club work.
Miss Jacks plans for yard improvement, as explained at the October 20 meeting
with Mrs. A. H. Roming, are creating much interest and enthusiasm. Several
members are planning to take lunch and spend a day in the woods, selecting
native shrubs suitable for yard planting.
