DISTRICT BASKETBALL
TOURNAMENT POSTPONED
Brother Explains Selection of Temple
As Place for Annual Event.
"Owing to the fact that the majority of county tournaments have been planned for
February 12 and 13, the district tournament date has been postponed to February
19 and 20 and the preliminary meet will be held Friday, February 19, at one p.m.
at the Temple High school," states a letter received from George Forehand,
district director of the Falls county interscholastic league.
"The meet is being held in Temple because Mr. Bedichek the league executive,
asked us to handle the tournament," the letter adds. "He said that
repeated efforts had been made to secure a Waco man for district director, but
that he had failed to do so. We accepted the tournament, but to aid where
we considered aid necessary.
"Our court is not a 'trick' court. It is 80 ft. by 41 ft. and it has a
good oiled floor and excellent goals. There is plenty of space beyond each
boundary line. I am almost convinced that a neutral team would prefer it
to the Waco court. We will do our utmost to please you while you are
here."
The annual Falls county boys' basketball tournament will be held on the Baylor
gym court at Waco Friday and Saturday of this week, the winner to represent the
county at the district court in Temple.
While Mr. Forehand makes no mention of it in his letter, it is understood there
had been some criticism emanating from a Waco source of the selection of Temple
as the site for the district tournament.
