Town Clock Slips an Eccentric.
-----
People residing within
hearing distance of the town clock were startled in their peaceful slumbers
Sunday morning by the continuous striking of the clock.
The continuity of the strokes began about
the hour of four and kept up until eight when the janitor, G. P. Collier
appeared on the scene and adjusted the machinery of the town's timepiece.
Opinions differed as to the cause of the
peculiar actions of the clock. Some facetious people attributed it to the
heavy comedy of the Rabbit Foot Minstrels which held forth on the court house
square Saturday night. Others of a more scientific turn of mind, ascribed
the phenomena to the passage of the equinoctial period, but the most generally
accepted theory is that the machinery of the clock merley slipped an eccentric.
