TO ANSWER TO GRAND JURY.
-----
Rosebud Parties Give Bond in
Sum of $500 Each.
-----
Justice J. D. Lamar and Sam Smith, special deputy constable, of Rosebud, were
held to await the action of the grand jury in the examination at Rosebud
Tuesday. They are charged with being instrumental in the death of a
Mexican, a report of which appeared in a previous issue of this paper.
The defendants waived examination and their
bonds were fixed at $500 by agreement. The bonds were readily given, being
signed by the leading citizens of Rosebud.
The circumstances, as developed, show that
the dead Mexican was the party, or one of them, who burglarized the store of
Emelia Davila on last Friday night; that before he died he told the officers
where to find the cash drawer taken from Davila's house, and the officers found
it as located. The Mexican also had on clothing which belonged to another
party.
There were about half a dozen shots fired
at the Mexican, only one taking effect and that in the back, going through the
body.
