TELEPHONE EXTENSION SERVICE.
-----
New Lines are Being Opened by the
Southwestern Company.
-----
The telephone is a 20th century product and the extent of its usefulness has
hardly been defined yet.
In keeping in touch with progress the
Southwestern is extending its lines to rural communities. While not so
much as we would like, still the company is doing something in that line that is
of interest to Marlin and Falls county people.
The company is putting in a line to the
Goorich ranch east of town which will have half a dozen phones on it to start
with; a line north to within one mile of Perry, which will have eight phones; a
line to the Goodrich ranch near Golinda, west of the river. This line will
also have connection with the Sanger farm.
These lines will be part of the Marlin
exchange, except the line to Sanger, which, on account of the long distance work
required, is placed on a metalic circuit. A charge will be made for use of
this line, but the others may be used for local purposes by the patrons, the
same as the exchange lines in town.
Manager Hooper is desirous of securing an
exchange line to Stranger and Woodland; also through the bottom to Highbank and
across the river to the Cedar Springs section and has been working on these for
some time.
Lines are being projected and built from
Kosse, Thornton and Mart into some of Marlin's best trade territory. The
farmers, who have phones, can order goods from these towns, can keep posted on
the markets and otherwise remain in touch with these towns, all of whom are
reaching out for trade.
Marlin should take notice of these things
for the protection of her local trade.
