General William Booth, head of the Salvation Army, is reported to be sinking.

The Atlantic fleet will leave Hampton Roads December 16 for its cruise to the
Pacific under command of Rear Admiral Evans.

A farm renter named Anderson of near Dallas, in trying to dodge an automobile,
being in a wagon, dodged into a street car. He is dead.

The Waco Freight Bureau and the Waco Business Men's Club have arranged a
merchants' trade excursion to Waco from November 10 to 16, inclusive.

Before the onion growing industry began to give profitable results, the land
about and near Laredo could be bought at $5.00 per acre. Since then land
is hard to get at $100 per acre.

An attempt to arrest a negro in New Orleans brought on a serious race riot.
Result: Six negroes killed and same number wounded. One officer was
killed instantly and three officers wounded.

J. W. McGill wants $5,000 for actual damages and $10,000 punitory damages
against the T. & B. V. railroad for falling into an excavation on the property
of said railroad at Teague. He has filed a suit.

The flouring mill and gin at Levita, Texas, is to be sold under hammer on
November 5 next, 200 cords of wood, 600 bushels of wheat and 20,000 pounds of
low grade flour to throw in.

President Roosevelt has appointed Thursday, November 28 as a Thanksgiving day.
His language in the proclamation may be, to speak, considered as genuine
surprise to the Clergy as well as the ungodly.

The loss of the test case in the criminal court at Tyler on the question of
obtaining new license under the Baskin-McGregor law has cost the saloon men over
$80,000 in license money. That amount is already deposited to meet the
demand.

A bolt of lightning struck and badly damaged the $10,000 new public school
building at Blum, which was almost completed. The belfry, roof and two
walls were demolished and about twenty large windows broken.

President Roosevelt has signified his intention to use his influence for
separate statehood for Arizona and New Mexico, although he expresses his opinion
that nothing in this direction can be accomplished at the next session of
congress.
