SMITH CASE IS REVERSED.
-----
Joe Dawson Case Affirmed--Wills
Cervantes Reversed.
-----
The court of criminal appeals in session at Tyler reversed and remanded the case
of the State of Texas vs. John Smith on appeal from this county.
Smith was
convicted on a charge of arson and given five years in the reformatory.
His attorney, E. W. Bounds, appealed the case to the higher court with the
result as noted. The case was very stubbornly contested at the first trial
and will no doubt continue to hold the interest until finally dsposed (sic) of.
The court also reversed the assault to
murder case of Wills Cervantes and affirmed the Joe Dawson case, both of which
were on appeal from this county.
Dawson was also sent up on the charge of
assault to murder.
