NEWS FORCAST FOR WEEK.
-----
Washington, D.C., Nov. 9.--Now that the state elections are over the preliminary
skirmishing in the presidential race takes on renewed interest, though it cannot
be said that the results of last week's elections gave any indication as to how
the wind blows in the race for the White House. William J. Bryan will
speak in Milwaukee Monday night and it is possible that some announcement of
importance may be forthcoming, though it is believed here that he will reserve
any definite declaration of his intentions until he comes East later in the
month.
A meeting of importance to be held during
the week will be the conference of the representatives of the five Ceneral (sic)
American republics to agree upon a plan for the peaceful settlement of future
disputes between those countries.
The Louisiana legislature will convene in
extra session Monday to consider alleged unfairness in the port charges at New
Orleans, the fees of state tax collectors, and a number of other matters.
Mrs. Annie M. Bradley will be placed on
trial here Monday to answer for the killing of Senator Arthur M. Brown of Utah
in the Raleigh hotel last spring.
On Saturday the president will issue the
proclamation conferring statehood on Oklahoma.
Conventions of general interest during the
week will be those of the American Federation of Labor at Norfolk and the
American Mining Congress at Joplin, Mo., and a national conference on state and
local taxation to be held at Columbus, Ohio.
