Major and Mrs. Nicholas Stallworth of
Marlin
Celebrated Their "Golden Wedding" Tuesday
Evening,
Dec. 10, 1907.
Major and Mrs. Nicholas Stallworth
Nicholas Stallworth and Lucy M. Turk were united in marriage in Conecub county,
Alabama, on Dec. 10, 1857. They celebrated their fiftieth wedding
anniversary on Dec. 10, 1907.
Fifty years is a long time in the ordinary life of persons. Few couples
there are who have fifty years of wedded life allotted to them. It
was therefore no less appropriate than it was a great pleasure for many friends
to call and congratulate Maj. Stallworth and his bride of fifty years, on the
remarkably good fortune that has been theirs.
Our news columns tell of this delightful occasion.
Three sons have blessed this union. George, who died at the age of 13,
Frank M., who is Marlin's city marshal, and Dosh W., salesman for Curtis & Co.
They have four grandsons, George, William, Edgar and Dan. Besides the
three sons mentioned, Major and Mrs. Stallworth have reared and partially reared
three orphaned children, viz: S. J. Stallworth and Misses Ida and Myra
Turk.
After coming to Texas, they resided on their farm west of the river for a number
of years, but moved to Marlin more than twenty years ago for the purpose of
health and education of their sons.
Maj. Stallworth served throughout the civil war, having enlisted in February,
1861, at Allenton, Ala. He was major of the Twenty-third Alabama, C. S. A.
Politically, he has always been a democrat, and has been honored by that party.
He and Mrs. Stallworth are consistent members of the Baptist church, admired and
respected by many friends who hope that they may yet enjoy many more wedding
anniversaries.
