The free for all pace which will take place Thursday, Sept. 5, is attracting a
great deal of attention all over the country and some of the best horses are
being entered. The management has offered extra inducements to the
horsemen to get them to ship here. Dr. Harold Elderkin of Fort Worth will
ship Lon Kelly, mark of 2:12 1-4. This horse has won 106 heats out of 126.
In 1906 he won eight first, two seconds and one third out of eleven starts.
Hal Burton, the unbeaten green pacer of Texas, is here and entered and his
admirers are many and strong in their belief of his winning the free for all.
Nut Clipper, owned by Frank Peacock of this
place, is a very fast pacer and the local contingent believe he can win the
race. Those who have seen him race say he is a very promising horse adn
will be hard to beat in any class and Ludie K. owned by Bob Farmer of Beaumont,
is here and will be a contender. This little mare won moe matinee races at
Dallas than any other horse there, she has mark of 2.13 1-2 and can race
all day and when they begin to split heats the "wise ones" begin to put
their money on Ludie K. She will bear watching all the time.
The entry of the famous Red Light, owned by
the genial George Hoetzler of Ennis has put a "red light" on the situation sure
enough. This horse has a mark of 2:09 and was unbeaten in 1905. He
is what is commonly known as "A Broncho." Mr. Boetzler purchased him at a
slae and did not know he was getting a valuable race horse. He has since
won over "$16,000 in stakes and purses for his owner. He will arrive today
from Ennis and can be seen in his trial work outs every morning at the Fair
grounds.
Jeff Sewall of Kyle, arrived today with the
old time favorite Poco Bueno and Tom Love.
