Chief
Nettles, in retiring from a term of ten years as chief of the fire department,
made a few appropriate remarks for the good of the service.
The new
chief, Geo. H. Carter, has been connected with the department since its
organization, and has done much for its success; he has been acting as captain
of the hose company, and will make the department a fine officer.
The
firemen, in speaking of the work for last year, stated that they have been much
hampered in their work by numerous small boys loafing at the station, trying to
ride trucks at the fires, and they expressed a hope that the parents of the town
would keep them away from the station and out of the way of the firemen at
fires.
The
meeting adjourned subject to call of the chief.
