CONTRACTS ARE AWARDED.
Commissioners' Court Convened
in Special Session Saturday.
The
commissioners' court awarded contracts and made appointments for hiring of
country convicts, keeping paupers at poor farm, county medical practice and
court house janitor Saturday.
Dr. W. H.
Allen was appointed health officer on his proposition to do the medical practice
for the jail and poor farm for $200 per year. The only other applicant was
the present incumbent, Dr. B. G. Ward, whose proposal was $300.
G. M.
Yates was the only applicant for superintendent of the poor farm and he was
awarded the contract at $8.00 per month per pauper.
Geo. B.
Collier was the only one who wanted to be court house janitor and he was
appointed at $65 per month, which price includes care of the court house yard.
There were
two propositions before the court for the hire of the county convicts, that of
the present contractors, Drs. Cox and Magee, whose bid was $8.50 and $13.00 for
long term. Clark's bid was accepted.
The court
considered and disposed of some road matters and adjourned, this being a special
session.
