Big Damages Asked at Waco.
-----
The damage case of Sharnburger vs. Buckholts, wherein a judgment for $70,000 is
asked, came up in the federal court at Waco Tuesday.
Plaintiff is a painter by trade and was at
Westphalia last summer at the time the barn of J. G. Buckholts was destroyed by
fire. He alleges in his petition that the defendant made certain
statements to the effect that he, Sharnburger, had set fire to the barn.
He charges that this constituted slander and thinks he should be paid the amount
stated as recompense for his injured reputation. He is a citizen of
Illinois and therefore brings suit in the federal court.
The plaintiff is represented by J. W. Davis
and others and the defendant by Geo. H. Carter and O. L. Stribling.
