Chattanooga, Tenn., Oct.
16.--A small though dignified appearing body of several hundred men filled the
prettily decorated hall of the Read house today at the opening of the annual
reunion of the Society of the Army of the Cumberland. Death had since the
last meeting removed several prominent members of the society.
Gen. Gate P. Thurston of Nashville called
the gathering to order and presided over the opening session, which was devoted
to an exchange of greetings and hearing the annual reports. This evening
the annual oration will be delivered by Col. M. F. Fitch of Pueblo, Colo., who
was an inspector-general and fought at Chickamanga. The reunion will
continue over tomorrow.
