A Novel Teachers Meeting
~~~~~
Saturday morning
was the time appointed for the regular monthly teachers meeting, but by dint of
persuasion the teachers succeeded in getting Prof. Hudson to change the time to
Friday night instead. The young ladies of the faculty with something of the
Christmas spirit of fun still remaining, decided to ass a spice of variety to eh
usual order of business. So they came in party costume, each with a bow in her
hair in lieu of a "beau."
The papers prepared for the evening were read with as much dispatch as
possible, and then a motion was made that the rest of the program be dispensed
with and a game of flinch be substituted. The objections of the surprise Prof.
Hudson were overruled and the formal meeting broke up in laughter and confusion.
The crowd then adjourned to Miss Nettles' room to enjoy an informal lunch.
Hot chocolate, provided by the thoughtfulness of Miss Nettles, quickly banished
all thoughts of the trials of the Jusuits and Jansenists, and the troubles of
school discipline. Miss Owens passed around a box of stuffed dates stuck on
tooth picks, with the remark that since this is leap year, each teacher should
have her "pick" of "dates" and plenty of them.
Several exciting games of flinch and stock exchange furnished the evening's
amusement and the teachers went at eleven o'clock, agreeing that the new order
of meeting was a pleasure that should be repeated.
