PUBLIC LIBRARY OPENING
~~~~~
The attendance at the formal opening
of the public library on last afternoon and evening was quite large, showing a
commendable interest in the important work undertaken by the members of the
association.
The reception was informal and the evening was spent in
listening to the music, looking at the books and social conversation. Punch was
served at intervals.
The collection of books includes about 200 volumes from
many of the noted authors, The subjects are largely standard fiction, though
art, science and literature are also embraced. Books of the following well known
authors are included: Johnstone, Barr, Holland, Tennyson, Milton, Bryant Lamb,
Drummond, Crawford, Zangwill, Westcott, Mulebar, Tarkington, Norris, Wallace,
Dixon; Hope, Caine AIlen, Fox, Forde, Sterling, Pemberton. Howells, Ward,
Fowler, Stephenson, Mulock; E. P. Roe, Arthur, Parker, Peterson, Elliot,
Bachellor, Curtis, Thackery, Bronte, Wilcox, Corelli, King, Dickens, Prescott,
Dumas. Hawthorne, Cooper, Moore, Bolton, Barry, Hughes, Ouida, Riley,
