STATE FIREMAN'S CONVENTION
Capt. G. A. King, president of the
state Fireman's Association, received a telegram Friday to the effect that the
Cleburne fire department had been unable to raise the necessary funds with which
to defray the expenses of entertaining the State Fireman's convention which had
selected that as the place of meeting for 1904. Capt. King went to Waco to
consult with firemen and citizens of that city, and also laid the matter before
Mayor Bryden and President Allen of the Marlin Business League. The State
Fireman's convention being a pretty big thing and requiring considerable funds
to provide suitable entertainment; it is not probable that Marlin will ask for
it at this time. Waco has offered to entertain them and in the meantime Cleburne
has asked for further time.
