A NEGRO WOMAN SLASHED UP
~~~~~
Victim Of Murderous Assault
Near Reagan
~~~~~
Thursday afternoon a negro woman by the name of Delia McCray was badly carved up
on the J. T. Owens farm near Reagan.
The party who did the work is Tom Roberts, a negro man.
The McCray woman was slashed no less than nine times and it is not yet certain
just what the result will be, though the physicians, think the woman may
recover.
After Roberts had performed upon Delia with his knife
to his heart's content, he bid the scen good bye and has not yet been caught. As
soon as the matter was reported to him, and immediately after the cutting, Judge
J. E. Davis of Reagan called up the Sheriff's office and requested the services
of an officer to capture the assailant. Sheriff Greer assigned Deputy Steen to
the case and he at once departed for
Reagan.
Mr. Steen followed the trail of the negro to the bottom
and at one time was close on to his man but the festive soon eluded his grasp
and escaped. The deputy remained in the bottom on the lookout all night and
until nearly twelve o'clock today but could get no information as to his where
abouts.
