WHOLESALE THEFT OF MULES.
-----
Seventeen Run Off and Disposed Of.
-----
Officers from McLennan
county were in the city Monday in search of a lot of mules and wagons that had
been driven off from the farm of a Capt. Miller, who lives in the county, and
sold. Some of the mules were sold in Marlin, C. C. Taylor, who lies east
of town being among the purchasers.
Seventeen head were stolen from the farm
along with a number of wagons and all were in the hands of negroes when they
reached Marlin. The bill of sale to the pair of mules bought by Mr.
Taylor, was signed by one Alexander who is said to be a brother of Bob
Alexander, who lives in the bottom near here and who signed the bill of sale as
a witnes (sic).
It is said that the property is all under
mortgage to a firm in Waco and further investigation may furnish interesting
developments.
The officers are on a hot trail and will
doubtless have all parties in hand in a short time.
The necessary papers were secured from
Judge Frazier and the officers went out to Mr. Taylor's and secured the three he
had purchased. He will probably lose the purchase money paid for them.
