THE KING ARRIVES.
-----
In Gorgeous Splendor He Greets
His Subjects.
-----
His royal Highness, the Caliph of Bagdad, Nilram I, arrived in the city Monday
over the H & T C railway. The king was accompanied by a large retinue of
attendants, officers of the court, etc.
His Majesty's robes were of oriental
designs of dazzling brilliancy and richest materials.
The Royal party were met at the depot by
Mayor Wm. Shelton, members of the City Council and a committee of citizens
headed by the Carnival Band of many pieces. When the king appeared on the
platform of the coach the greetings were expressive of the great devotion of his
subjects in Marlin. The band played "Under Fire"
Clark Light Guards, Capt. Carter in command
formed a military escort for the royal party. The Guard in addition to its
other duties, will serve as a personal guard to the king while he is in the
city, and it is safe to say that our boys will see that no harm comes to His
Majesty.
The king and members of the royal party
were escorted to Bartlett park, the mayor occupying the carriage with His
Majesty. Arriving at the park the mayor in a few words formally turned the
keys of the city over to His Majesty, who accepted them most graciously through
his Great Chamberlain.
After the ceremonies at the park, the king
retired for a brief rest, being quite fatigued from his long journey.
His Majesty is accompanied by the Duke of
Norfolk, Earl Marshal in charge of the royal party; the Duke of Connaught,
commander of the Military; the Duke of Portland and the Earl of Lancaster, the
great Chamberlain.
