FALLS COUNTY FREE SEED
~~~~~
List Of Names Who Were First
To Apply
~~~~~
In the distribution of improved cotton seed for planting, by the department of
agriculture, Falls county has faired very well, in view of the fact that the
supply, at the disposal of Congressman Henry, was very limited.
As bas been previously stated in this paper, the
secretary of agriculture, purchased a quantity of improved seed for free
distribution among the farmers in boll weevil districts. The plan adopted by the
secretary was to allot a proportionate of the seed to each congressman from
weevil sections, for distribution among the farmers of their respective
districts. Upon this basis, Congressman Henry was allotted 220 sacks for the
entire district, and of this 220 Falls county gets 108, or nearly half of the
entire lot for this district. This is due to the fact that the applications from
Falls county were sent in early, as suggested by the DEMOCRAT at the time.
As the seed had to be distributed upon the principle of "first come, first
served," those who applied and did not secure seed, will understand that their
applications arrived too late.
The seed have arrived and are being distributed by
Judge W. E. Hunnicutt, to whom they were consigned, upon the presentation of
identification cards sent them.
