Waco, Texas, June 25. - A damage suit
for $20,000.00 was this morning filed in the district court by M. J. Hutto of
Mart, Texas, against the prohibition central committee of justice precinct No.
2, which includes Mart, Riesel, Battle and Harrison.
The suit is against J. C. Baldwin, L. M. Benson, C. D.
Whitley, T. H. Lumpkin, R. E. Bell and W. W. Woodson, all prominent men, who
compose the central committee.
Hutto's petition alleges that the committee issued a
circular to the voters of the precinct in which Hutto's character was attacked
by slanderous and false statements relative to law breaking, etc. He
claims that his name was used straight out in these circulars.
A local option election is to be held in this precinct
next Tuesday and the contest is growing hot.
