PREACHERS BADLY BEATEN UP
~~~~~
Assaulters Enraged Because Member
Was Expelled
~~~~~
Rev. W. A. Turnage, pastor of. the Baptist church at Holland in Bell county and
formerly pastor of the church of the same faith at Lott, and Rev. C. L.
Spradley, district missionary from Belton, were assaulted by men armed with
clubs and pistols at the Indian Creek church, in Bell county Sunday night and
badly used up. Both are reported to be in a serious condition, as a result of
the assault.
The assault took place as the two preachers started to
leave the church after service.
There were five men in the party who assaulted the
ministers and they were enraged because one of their friends had been expelled
from the church Sunday. The moon was shining brightly at the time and it is said
that three of the assaulting party were recognized by the preachers.
The affair has created quite a stir in the eastern
portion of our neighboring county, and it is feared by some that the end of the
trouble is not yet.
