THE MARLIN DEMOCRAT
Thirteenth Year - Number 44
Marlin, Texas, Thursday, July 10, 1902
-----
OTTO LETTER.
The farmers of this
country are now in possession of something new to them, yet it is very old and
that is a complete failure in the corn crop.
Otto is still on a boom. A new gin is
going up. Gill Leuschner is building it and will run it to perfection.
Dr. Johnson, has his office nearly
completed and it is quite neat in appearance and adds one more to our town.
J. S. Summers has been teaching a ten day
singing school at the Otto church, which was out last Friday.
What these locked conventions are doing for
democracy is a plenty. I fear that it died on June 14th and the
conventions are now burying it deeper than the miner's pick will every (sic)
reach. Judging from the number of tickets out now, the democrats must work
together to carry their points in the November election. United we stand,
divided we fall.
The protracted meeting began at Hope church
Friday night. A good attendance and a glorious time is expected.
Rev. J J Davis is conducting. He expects help at once.
The prospects for cotton is good but we
have the pesky little thing called the boll weevil and I guess he will stay with
us and do us as little good as possible.
Fred Von Phanny formerly of this place but
now of Ballinger, was in Otto Saturday on business.
C J Thomas and M V Bradshaw went to Waco
Monday morning to attend the congressional convention.
Badger.
