ONE NEGRO SHOOTS ANOTHER.
-----
TROUBLE
OCCURRED OVER WIFE OF
SHOOTIST.
-----
A shooting occurred on
the W H. Jones farm south of town Saturday afternoon in which two negroes are
involved--one as the man who did the shooting and the other who figured as the
target.
Sammie White is the name of the man who did the shooting and
the name of the party who got shot is Richard Jones. The shooting was done
with a Richardson & Herrington 38 calibre pistol and neither of the two wounds
are considered dangerous. One took effect in the adomen and the other in
the jaw.
White claims that Jones had "eliminated" his wife's
"effections" and he went after the despoiler of his domestic tranquility with a
gun.
Both are young negroes. After the shooting White went
to a neighboring farm where he was located at 11 o'clock Saturday night and
arrested by Deputy Sheriff Steen and Constables Peebles, of Marlin, and Marlin,
of Reagan. He tried to evade the officers but offered no resistance when
they came upon him. He was brought to town and placed in jail.
