MUD PIE PARTY.
The most unique and
enjoyable affair was the mud pie party given by Charlie Bartlett to his little
friends on the 3rd anniversary of his birthday, Saturday, June 14, 1902.
The children chaperoned by their mothers,
arrived at 5 o'clock. Two immense sandpiles and a tub of water had been
placed before hand, under the old oak tree. Little buckets and spoons were
given each child and for two hours they made mud pies. Then refreshments
were served, consisting of punch, pop corn, candy and cakes. Two prizes
were offered the girl and boy who soiled their aprons the most. Little
Virginia Eddins and Willis Lang Allen were the lucky ones. Marian and
Miriam Finks, Pauline Battle, Mabel Branson, Andrew Peyton, Pauline Cheeves and
Madeline Robinson were the receiving party and most gracefully did they act
their part. Those present were:
Willis Lang Adams, Paul and George Gardere,
William Patrick, Lea Ernst Allen, James w Rice, Basil Clark Curry, R B McKnight,
Horace Hunnicutt, T A Cheeves, Irene Allen, Mary Louise Allen, Julia Blake
Hunter, Francis Crawford, Francis Carter, Sallie Burk Rush, Virginia and
Margaret Eddins, Marguerite Keesee, Bessie Mildred Herron, Bessie May Kavanaugh,
Rebecca Francks.
