It is the same old
story--a bed of coals, a woman and can of kerosene, and Violet Shaw, wife of
Burrel Shaw, lies in a precarious condition at their in South Marlin.
Friday evening, Violet went to start a fire
with which to prepare supper. The kindling did not ignite as quickly as
she thought it ought to and she grabbed a gallon can of kerosene and poured some
on the fire. An explosion instantly followed and Violet's clothing was a
mass of flames.
Her husband rushed in to extinguish the
blaze and finally succeeded, though he was badly burned himself in the attempt.
The woman was severely burned and may not recover.
She is the wife of the janitor of the
public school buildings.
