MARLIN AND I.& G. N. SHOPS
-----
Some Reasons Why Marlin Should Make an
Effort to Secure Them.
The DEMOCRAT repoted
several days ago the possibility of Marlin securing the I. & G. N. division
headquarters and the machine shops, provided the proper effort was made.
The visit of the I. & G. N. officials to Marllin with reference to the matter
was published.
A conference was held between Messrs.
Trice, Bowers and Trammell, representing the road and Mayor Shelton and a number
of citizens representing the town.
The matter was discussed at some length and
several probable available sites for the shops were discussed but no formal
proposition was asked for or submitted.
That these shops would prove an incalcuable
benefit to Marlin cannot for a moment be questioned. It means a monthly
pay roll of anywhere from $10,000 to $30,000 and perhaps greater. This
amount of cash turned loose in Marlin every month to find its way into the marts
of trade, would prove a big thing and would in addition to her other advantages
place Marlin in the front as one of the best small cities in the State. It
would in a few years add several thousand population to the city.
This matter is well worth the serious
consideration of the peo- people (sic) of Marlin, especially as nearby towns,
competitors with Marlin, are interesting themselvesin (sic) an effort to secure
the coveted prize.
