GRADY GOSSIPS
~~~~~
H. C. Vann recently added two
commodious rooms to his dwelling.
Dave Stahl and Charley Johnson were in Waco last week.
There were several newcomers into this community since
Jan. 1, thereby increasing the school roll.
An unoccupied tenant house on the Gameson farm was
burned. The black smoke rolled and rolled up through the chilly air as if the
earth itself was on fire. The origin of the fire is unknown.
Mrs. J. C. Loggins has returned from a visit to Waco.
J. E. Vann recently returned from Huntsville, where he
went on business.
The east Falls county rural mail route will go into
operation about the middle of April. This route includes the entire Grady school
community and the people of this section will fully appreciate the dally free
mail delivery.
By the time the sun dawns the farmers of this community
are at their work every morning, hoping to make mother earth yield as she never
did before. The present prospects for a crop are very good, and we hope every
farmer will succeed in making and harvesting an abundance of both cotton and
corn. However, many of the farmers of this section are looking with a wishful
eye to the land of the Incas, the land that is ready to blossom at the touch of
American civilization.
CLOSING EXERCISES.
At nine o'clock last Friday morning the patrons of the
Grady school assembled to attend the closing exercises of the school. Classes
were kept in examination until nearly four o'clock in the evening, and the
patrons expressed themselves as being very much pleased with the progress of
their children. Supt. A. W. Eddins and J. R. Howard of Marlin, spent the day
with us; also Hon. J. Gameson in the afternoon. At the close of the exercises
Messrs Gameson and Eddins addressed the school. They spoke of the advantages to
be derived from an education, and the difficulties with which many schools have
to contend, and the best means by which to overcome them.
Their speeches sparkled from start to finish with rich
educational thoughts and will long be remembered by all those who were present.
